【摘要】:Surfacegrindingcancauseasignificantdecrease3intheflexurestrengthofadvancedceramicsmaterials.Themagnitudeofthelossinstrengthisdeterminedbythegrindingconditionsandtheresponseofthematerial.Thistestmethodcanbeusedtoobtainadetailedcharacterizationoftherelationshipbetweengrindingconditionsandflexurestrengthforanadvancedceramicmaterial.Theeffectonflexurestrengthofvaryingasinglegrindingparameterorseveralgrindingparameterscanbemeasured.Themethodmayalsobeusedtocompareandrankdifferentmaterialsaccordingtotheirresponsetooneormoredifferentgrindingconditions.Resultsobtainedbythismethodcanbeusedtodevelopanoptimumgrindingprocesswithrespecttomaximizingmaterialremovalrateforaspecifiedflexurestrengthrequirement.Thetestmethodcanassistinthedevelopmentofimprovedgrinding-damage-tolerantceramicmaterials.Itmayalsobeusedforqualitycontrolpurposestomonitorandassuretheconsistencyofagrindingprocessinthefabricationofpartsfromadvancedceramicmaterials.Thetestmethodisapplicabletogrindingmethodsthatgenerateaplanarsurfaceandisnotdirectlyapplicabletogrindingmethodsthatproducenon-planarsurfacessuchascylindricalandcenterlessgrinding.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationoftheeffectofsurfacegrindingontheflexurestrengthofadvancedceramics.Surfacegrindingofanadvancedceramicmaterialcanintroducemicrocracksandotherchangesinthenearsurfacelayer,generallyreferredtoasdamage(See).Suchdamagecanresultinachange-mostoftenadecrease-inflexurestrengthofthematerial.Thedegreeofchangeinflexurestrengthisdeterminedbyboththegrindingprocessandtheresponsecharacteristicsofthespecificceramicmaterial.Thismethodcomparestheflexurestrengthofanadvancedceramicmaterialafterapplicationofauser-specifiedsurfacegrindingprocesswiththebaselineflexurestrengthofthesamematerial.Thebaselineflexurestrengthisobtainedafterapplicationofasurfacegrindingprocessspecifiedinthisstandard.Thebaselineflexurestrengthisexpectedtoapproximatecloselytheinherentstrengthofthematerial.TheflexurestrengthismeasuredbymeansofASTMstandardflexuretestmethods.1.2FlexuretestmethodsusedtodeterminetheeffectofsurfacegrindingareC1161TestMethodforFlexureStrengthofAdvancedCeramicsatAmbientTemperaturesandC1211TestMethodforFlexureStrengthofAdvancedCeramicsatElevatedTemperatures.1.3MaterialscoveredinthisstandardarethoseadvancedceramicsthatmeetcriteriaspecifiedinflexuretestingstandardsC1161andC1211.1.4Theflexuretestmethodssupportingthisstandard(C1161andC1211)requirespecimensthathavearectangularcrosssection,flatsurfaces,andthatarefabricatedwithspecificdimensionsandtolerances.Onlygrindingprocessesthatarecapableofgeneratingthespecifiedflatsurfaces,i.e.planargrindingmodes,aresuitableforevaluationbythismethod.Amongtheapplicablemachinetypesarehorizontalandverticalspindlereciprocatingsurfacegrinders,horizontalandverticalspindlerotarysurfacegrinders,doublediskgrinders,andtool-and-cuttergrinders.Incrementalcross-feed,plunge,andcreep-feedgrindingmethodsmaybeused.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
